This year 25 April marks the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings by the Australian and New Zealand armed services. It’s a landmark occasion and the authorities are expecting record-breaking crowds at services around the country. As well the official events, many communities will be holding their own commemorations and Adelaide is no exception.

This second part of our What’s on in Adelaide in April review concentrates solely on Anzac Day. For a broad range of other events in Adelaide this month, read part 1 of our review here.

Camp Gallipoli
This event has been arranged to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli Landings, Australia’s darkest hour of the First World War. Groups and individuals will camp together as the Diggers did. There will be no tents or camping stoves, just an opportunity to sleep under the stars and “join in a night of entertainment and remembrance”. In the morning a dawn service will followed by breakfast prior to the closure of the camp.

Food and drink will be available to buy. Alcohol will only be served in the bar areas and cannot be consumed anywhere else within the site. After the official opening there will be performances from The City of Adelaide Pipe Band, Kilkenny, the Sing Australia Choir, Emily Williams and You and I. You’ll also be able to catch a screening of Russell Crowe’s The Water Diviner.

Where: Morphettville Racecourse, 79 Morphett Road, Morphettville
When: Friday 24 April 2015 at 5pm. Gates open at 3pm.
Cost: $50 for ticket only. Food-inclusive tickets have sold out.
