GST

Even on the other side of the world you still can’t escape paying VAT. It’s just that in Australia they call it Goods and Services Tax (GST).

GST is charged on most goods and services in Australia at the rate of 10%.

Prices shown must be inclusive of GST – so the price on your bill/receipt etc should be the price you pay/paid.

Can I claim GST?

Yes, in some instances you can claim back the Australian Goods & Services Tax you pay. The refund only applies to items above a certain value that you can carry or wear back to the UK, so any meals/car hire/accommodation costs you incur during your stay aren’t included.
