What’s on in Melbourne this month? Popular entertainment, that’s what – in all its shapes and forms. So from rugby to animation, cabaret to cosplay, if you’re travelling Australia this June and feel the need for some pop-culture, head to the country’s second city.

2015 Melbourne International Animation Festival
The MIAF originally took place in 2000 at the old Treasury Cinema. It’s returned to the city every year since, but is now held at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image. The festival highlights animation both current and historical and enjoys challenging people’s preconceptions of what animation is. Also included in the week-long event are the Render Animation Conference, The Centenary of Australian Animation Symposium, Max Hattler Is In The Room, Meet the Filmmaker presentations and a free careers in animation forum.

When: 21-28 June
Where: Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI)
Cost: Various prices, see link
